About our Mazda BT-50 Lift Kits for Gen 2 & Gen 3

Before you choose a Mazda BT-50 lift kit, check which generation you drive. Each one is built on a different ute's underpinnings, and the kits are not interchangeable:

  • BT-50 Gen 2 (April 2011 to mid 2021): built on the same platform as the Ford Ranger PX1 and PX2. Choose from 2 and 3 inch CalOffroad Platinum kits, a 3 inch Fox kit and a Nitro Pro Essentials kit.
  • BT-50 Gen 3 (September 2020 on): built on the same platform as the Isuzu D-MAX. Choose from 2 and 3 inch CalOffroad Platinum kits and a Nitro Pro Essentials kit.

Gen 2 and Gen 3 were sold side by side from late 2020 to mid 2021, so the year alone won't tell you which you have. Check the build date on your compliance plate, or look at the front end: the Gen 3 has the slimmer grille and headlights that came in with the D-MAX-based model.

Choosing a lift height for your BT-50

A 2 inch lift suits most BT-50s that tour, tow or carry a canopy, and works with the factory front geometry. A 3 inch lift fits bigger tyres, but on both generations it usually needs upper control arms to correct caster and a diff drop to protect the front CV joints. Most states allow around 50mm of suspension lift without engineering approval, so check your state's rules before going higher.

BT-50 kits shared with Ford and Isuzu

Because of the shared platforms, some kits list more than one vehicle. Several Gen 2 kits also fit the Ford Ranger PX1 and PX2, and Gen 3 kits also fit the Isuzu D-MAX (mid 2020 on). Only buy a kit if your BT-50 is named in its fitment list. A PX3 Ranger kit, for example, doesn't fit a Gen 2 BT-50.

Mazda BT-50 Lift Kit FAQs

How do I know if my BT-50 is Gen 2 or Gen 3?

Check the build date on the compliance plate. Gen 2 runs from April 2011 to mid 2021, and Gen 3 from September 2020. Because both were on sale between late 2020 and mid 2021, a "2021 BT-50" could be either. The Gen 3 shares its body and chassis with the current Isuzu D-MAX. If you're unsure, call us on 1300 225 494 with your build date.

Can I use a Ford Ranger lift kit on my BT-50?

Only on a Gen 2 BT-50, and only if the kit lists the BT-50 in its fitment. The Gen 2 shares its platform with the Ranger PX1 and PX2, so many kits are made for both. A Gen 3 BT-50 needs a kit that fits the mid 2020-on Isuzu D-MAX instead.

Will a lift kit let my BT-50 carry or tow more?

It helps your BT-50 carry its load at the right ride height, but it doesn't change the legal limits. Your payload, GVM and towing capacity stay at the factory ratings unless you complete a certified GVM upgrade.

Should I get my BT-50 lift kit professionally fitted?

We recommend it, especially for a 3 inch kit with upper control arms. A confident home mechanic with a mate can fit a 2 inch kit in a day, taking care with the front struts. Whoever fits it, book a wheel alignment afterwards, because a lift changes camber and toe.
