About our Air Bag Suspension Kits

Air bag suspension kits replace your traditional coil springs with air bags, offering a whole new level of control and comfort for your 4x4.

Imagine tackling tough terrain with the confidence of adjustable ride height. Simply inflate the air bags with the included air compressor or an optional air compressor kit for more power, to conquer obstacles and uneven surfaces with ease. When the adventure ends, deflate the air bags for a smooth, comfortable ride back home.

CalOffroad's air bag suspension kits are the best choice

Whether you're looking for a basic air bag kit or a complete air bag suspension kit with compressor, we have the perfect solution for your needs.

Benefits of our air bag suspension kits

  • Air bags absorb bumps and vibrations better than traditional springs, resulting in a smoother ride, both on and off-road.
  • Adjust the air pressure for optimal handling on any terrain, whether you're hauling a heavy load or cruising down the highway.
  • Air bags can be inflated to support additional weight, making them ideal for towing trailers or carrying heavy gear.
  • Some air bag kits feature self-leveling technology that automatically adjusts the air pressure to maintain a level ride, even with uneven loads.
  • Many air bag kits are designed for a simple installation process. CalOffroad also offers installation guides and support to get you rolling.

Airbag Suspension FAQs

Is airbag suspension legal in Australia?

Air bag suspension can be legal in Australia, but there are regulations and requirements that vary by state. Important Note: This information is for general guidance only. It's always best to check the latest regulations with your state's Department of Transport for the most accurate details. Here's a breakdown for each state:
New South Wales (NSW): Lift allowed: Up to 75mm total (can come from a combination of suspension and tires). Requires engineers certificate if exceeding 50mm lift from suspension.
Victoria (VIC): Lift allowed: Up to 75mm total (can come from a combination of suspension and tires). Air bag suspension is considered acceptable if it meets specific conditions:
Ride height cannot be adjusted while the vehicle is moving.
At least two-thirds of the original suspension travel must be maintained at all selectable ride heights.
Minimum ground clearance of 100mm must be maintained when parked and moving.
Requires Vehicle Approval Scheme (VAS) Certification.
Queensland (QLD): Lift allowed: Up to 50mm without an engineers certificate. Lift between 50mm and 75mm requires an engineers certificate.
South Australia (SA): Lift allowed: Up to 50mm total.
Western Australia (WA): Lift allowed: Up to 50mm total for the roof of the vehicle.
Northern Territory (NT): Lift allowed: Up to 100mm total.

Do I load the vehicle first and then inflate the airbags, or inflate the airbags and then load the vehicle?

For optimal performance, we recommend loading your vehicle first and then inflating the air bags with your CalOffroad air compressor (or a compatible compressor) to achieve a level ride height. Take measurements from the center of the wheel to the bottom of the wheel arch or tray to ensure a safe and even stance.

Do I need new suspension to fit CalOffroad air bags?

It depends on the condition of your existing suspension. If your springs or shocks are worn out, sagging, or struggling under constant load, we recommend having them reset or replaced before installing your air bags. If your current suspension is tired, the air bags may be overworked trying to compensate, potentially leading to premature failure. For brand new vehicles with stock suspension, CalOffroad air bags can be a great addition for balanced load distribution. Always refer to your CalOffroad product owner's manual for proper operation.

Do CalOffroad air bags affect the articulation/flex/travel of my vehicle when four-wheel driving?

No, CalOffroad air bags will not hinder articulation when used correctly as instructed in your product owner's manual. Here's why: If your vehicle is sagging or unevenly loaded without air bags, especially when towing, carrying cargo, or with passengers, you're already losing travel due to the weight compressing the suspension. By inflating the air bags to restore a level ride height, you regain the travel and flex that was lost under load. However, over-inflating the air bags can extend the suspension beyond its standard height, limiting downward travel. Use the air bags according to the recommendations for optimal performance.
